Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to the welfare of pensioners in the state.
The governor made this statement during the distribution of bond cheques totalling N1,999,908,887.33 for both state and local government pensioners. The event was part of activities marking the second anniversary of Adeleke’s administration.
Governor Adeleke emphasised his efforts to standardise pension administration, ensuring that pensioners are treated with dignity and their payments are made promptly.
He disclosed that his administration has made significant progress in the past two years, paying a total of N22.6 billion to state pensioners and N25 billion to local government pensioners, amounting to over N47 billion.
“This amount represents nearly 70% of what the previous All Progressives Congress (APC) administration paid over a 12-year period,” Adeleke stated.
Providing a breakdown of previous administrations’ pension payments, the governor explained: “Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola paid a total of N17,152,662,351.26 as of 2018.
“Former Governor Gboyega Oyetola paid a total of N17,255,424,708.51 as of 2022.
“The combined total for the two previous administrations over 12 years was N34,408,087,059.77.”
Governor Adeleke acknowledged the existing challenges within the pension sector and pledged to address them. He directed the Head of Service to compile a comprehensive list of unresolved issues requiring government intervention.
“I have mandated the Head of Service to compile a list of unresolved issues facing pensioners, especially areas where further government focus is needed. This will ensure that the state responds adequately to their needs,” the governor said.
The governor reassured pensioners of his administration’s unwavering commitment to their welfare, promising continuous improvements in pension administration.
