The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, Ade Adetimehin, has applauded Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for considering it necessary to embark on local government tours.
Adetimehin explained that the thank-you visits by the governor to all the 18 Local Government areas of the state in appreciation of the support APC received from the people, especially in the Presidential/National Assembly and the state House of Assembly elections showed that the governor is not an ingrate.
According to Adetimnehin, the party is still in celebration mood following the overwhelming victory of the APC in the last House of Assembly election in the state.
It would be recalled that the ruling APC won 23 of the 26 seats while the opposition PDP and ZLP won two and one seats respectively in the just concluded House of Assembly poll.
Adetimehin disclosed that the local government tour has provided an opportunity for governor Akeredolu to interface with the people of the state and as well present them the scorecards of his government within the last two years in office.
He added that the thank-you visits was a clear indication that the governor and the party valued and appreciated the people’s support, saying that Akeredolu and the APC would continue to be appreciative and provide good governance.
“What we are doing now is to show appreciation. Having done the party proud, as a leader of the party the governor has embarked on tour of the 18 Local Government Areas to appreciate the people, the party members and the citizens of Ondo State for standing by him and for doing him proud.
“The governor is thanking the people, appreciating them and also telling them the scorecards of his administration-what he has been able to do in the last two years. You know his government is a government of the people by the people and for the people.
“Everything is interactive in nature, asking them these are what I have done for you, is true that I have done them or not? Are you satisfied with them in terms of road, building of new schools and provision of potable water and many other people-oriented projects.
“We are happy that people responded well by saying, Mr governor you have done us proud, go on with your good works”, he said.
He further urged all and sundry to continue to support Akeredolu led APC government in the state to enable government deliver on more dividends of good governance to the citizenry.
Adetimehin appreciated the people across the state for the warm reception given to the governor and his entourage so far, saying that government would continue to appreciate them.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state described as laudable initiative the decision of the State Government to create Local Council Development Authorities (LCDAs).
The importance of bringing government closer to the people, particularly in a developing setting, according to the party, can not be overemphasised.
In a statement made available to journalists by the State Publicity Secretary of the party Mr. Alex Kalejaye, said with that singular decision, the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s government has once more demonstrated his unquenchable thirst for rural development and unrivalled concern about the welfare of the people.
He wholeheartedly supports the idea that will facilitate rapid development, generate employment opportunities and boost the economy of the new development centres that will be created.
“We congratulate members of the LCDAs committee and urge them to be thoroughly committed to the onerous task and be guided by a deep sense of patriotism to justify the confidence reposed in them,” he advised.
According to the statement, the party also commended governor for his patriotic and unbiased approach to decision making, particularly in renaming the State University of Science and Technology after the late former State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu.
