Adetula harps on effective police-public partnership for crime reduction

The Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of Owena Press Limited, The publisher of The Hope titles, Sir Ademola Adetula has advocated improved relationship and trust between the people and the police towards solving crime related issues happening in the society.

Adetula spoke while welcoming the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro who paid a courtesy visit to his office in Akure, the state capital, yesterday.

According to the CEO, The Hope Newspaper has enjoyed a mutual relationship with the state police command which was further sustained by the immediate past PPRO, CSP Femi Joseph.

The chairman was of the opinion that an average Nigerian of today only fear the police, but with effective synergy called for a better relationship between the police and members of the public.

While urging the PPRO to use his knowledge in communication to bridge the gap between the public and the police, added that The Hope would continue to play its role in propagating the achievements of the command.

 The Owena Press boss who gave an insight on the brief history of the company which he said was established in 1989 hinted that promoting public good remains the priority of the organization.

His words: “The Hope newspaper is a community newspaper and we are very proud of it. However, we have not taken that position to a ridiculous level as mouth organ of the government .

“In our editorial judgement, we try to consider the interest of the public alongside the interest of the readers. We try to give priority to the readers and the publisher, he stated.

“When I learnt we have a new PPRO and went through your profile and I saw that you are rich in Mass Communication I was very comfortable, I believe that with your background and you coming on board, you will be an asset to us and we will have a better relationship

 “I assure you that we are going to have a smooth working relationship.

Responding, PPRO ASP Ikoro said his predecessor told him a lot about The Hope and that he  came to ensure that he solidify the synergy between the organisation and the police.

He promised that the existing relationship between the organisation and the police would be sustained just as his mission and vision for the state is to bridge the gap between the police and the public.

ASP Ikoro added that Ondo state still remain one of the safest in the country, saying he want the public to continue to partner with the police for effective crime reduction in the society.

Earlier, the Editor of the Hope Newspaper, Mr Akindele Adubuola thanked the PPRO for his visit, assuring him  cooperation to ensure he succeeds in his primary assignment.

Adubuola reminded the police spokesman on the need for the police to protect the underdogs, citing issue of a woman macheted by her husband which the Hope newspaper has been a vanguard on the incident, urging him to use his good offices to ensure that the perpetrator of such dastardly act is  brought to justice as the matter is of public interest
