The Chairman, Owena Press Limited, Sir Ademola Adetula has admonished students to be diligent with their academics and acquire needed skills to succeed in the media industry.

Adetula stated this while receiving pupils of Watersprings International School, Akure, who were on excursion to the only newspaper publishing organisation in Ondo state last week Friday.

The veteran in the journalism industry said the media are the only professionals that could hold powerful people to account.

“Journalism is like a pastoral job, you are there to serve humanity. Everyone in the government is there to protect their own integrity and you are there as a sneeve dog.”

While adding that journalists can knock and open any door in the world, he stressed that anyone that will practice the profession must be resourceful, knowledgeable and daring.

The student led by Mr. Ebenezer Kayode and other members of the school, visited Owena Press to acquire knowledge on news gathering, writing, newspaper production and circulation.

The pupils expressed satisfaction in the visit after been tutored on how news stories are gathered and published stating that their visit had deepened their knowledge and advanced their interest in journalism practices.

Speaking on behalf of others, the head girl, Oluwasuyi Ooreofe appreciated the management for the warm reception, stressing that it has given him a new sense of direction.
