…as 2nd edition kicks off today

Football enthusiast Dr Olumuyiwa Adu, popularly known as “Adu Cubana,” has reiterated his commitment to establishing a football academy in Akure.

Adu stated this while addressing the organisers of the second “Adu Unity Football Competition for Aiyedatiwa” in Akure, the state capital.

He revealed that agents are working on acquiring a suitable site for the academy and noted that he met with some of them a few days ago.

During the first edition of the competition, Dr Olumuyiwa Adu promised to establish a football academy in Akure to ensure budding talents in Ondo State are nurtured from a young age.

In a chat with Sporting Hope, he said the academy’s establishment is well on course and is aimed at supporting talented footballers in Ondo State.

Expressing satisfaction with the first edition of the competition, Adu said there would be significant improvements in this edition.

He advised participating teams to give their best in line with the competition’s rules and regulations.

Adu assured that several football agents would be present to scout for talent, promising to support outstanding players discovered in the competition to excel.

According to him, “The future is very bright for outstanding players discovered in the competition.

“The organisers who proposed this competition to me are brainstorming on how to ensure that the talent discovered is well nurtured and promoted in both local and international markets.”

The chairman of the Organising Committee, AbduRahaman Abdulsalam, assured participating teams of a level playing field.

“We are going to ensure there is fair and unbiased officiating, so that the losers will congratulate the winners.”

The second edition of the Adu Unity Football Competition for Aiyedatiwa will kick off today at the Ijapo Housing field, with defending champions Ijapo Ages Stars FC playing against Right Hand FC in the opening match.
