The Afenifere Intelligentsia Group, comprising some of the most accomplished professionals and intellectuals in the Southwest region, has resolved to commence work on the Southwest Development Plan 2050.
This decision followed the group’s review of submissions from the Southwest Summit held in Akure during the week.
According to a statement by the National Organising Secretary of Afenifere, Abagun Kole Omololu, the development plan will be structured into three phases, short-term goals (2026–2030); medium-term goals (2031–2040) and long-term goals (2041–2050).
Omololu explained that the elite group would work through and leverage existing regional platforms to actualise the plan.
These include the Southwest Governors’ Forum, the Southwest Development Commission (SWDC), the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), the Odua Group and other relevant organisations within Yoruba land.
He noted that the initiative represents a strategic roadmap to consolidate regional development efforts and ensure sustainable progress across the Southwest over the next 25 years.
