Like a bitter pill, a middle-aged hairdresser, Mrs Selimo Boboye, is yet to come to terms with the fact that her estranged husband, Mr Boboye, who abandoned her and the children for nine years, is now back, desperately asking for sex.
Selimo who claimed she bore the weight of a lonely battle for years, abandoned by the man she once called her husband, said he suddenly came from nowhere and started pestering her for sex. She said her refusal to let him bed her, was greeted with a pestle attack on her head.
Weekend Hope investigation revealed that the man allegedly vanished into thin air without a word nine years ago, leaving the woman to fend for their four children, struggling to keep them clothed, fed and educated. The youngest had just secured admission into the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), a triumph she had fought for single-handedly.
Yet, just when she had made peace with his absence, and had sworn never to let him invade her space again, he returned like a ghost from the past. This time, he did not come with remorse or apologies. He came with entitlement, demanding what he no longer had a right to – her body.
When she resisted, anger boiled over, and in an instant, the man who had once vowed to love and protect her became her greatest nightmare.
She feared his return was not out of love but out of vengeance, and the reality of his intentions became chillingly clear.
Speaking to Weekend Hope, Mrs Boboye recounted the harrowing ordeal that unfolded just a week ago.
She said, “He appeared out of nowhere, making demands like he had never left. I told him he should focus on his children and leave me to struggle as I have done all these years. But he would not listen.
“He has never cared for us, never sent money for our feeding. That night, I made moimoi, which he ate. Later, he claimed he had sent me money, but I received no alert. It was only after my daughter shared her hotspot that I discovered he had indeed sent it. But I told him I did not need his money. My daughter even asked him to send his account details, so we could return it, but he didn’t.”
The confrontation escalated into violence. “Before I knew what was happening, he grabbed a pestle and struck me at the back of my head, near my neck. In that moment, I thought I would die. I struggled to escape, clutching one of my daughters, desperate to get away.”
She continued, her voice heavy with pain, “He locked us outside the house all night. It was only the following morning that I managed to go to the Oba-Ile Police Station to report him.”
But the nightmare was far from over. When she returned with a police officer, they found that her husband had changed the locks to the apartment.
“I fear for my life. This is a man who abandoned his family for years, only to return demanding intimacy. I don’t know what his motives are? But I am afraid he could kill me. Who knows what he is up to? Rituals? Revenge? I cannot tell,”she asked fearfully.
As if the agony was not enough, she revealed another cruel twist. Her husband’s brother, Olamide, is now claiming ownership of the home she and her children had laboured to build.
“He says my husband completed the house with their father’s inheritance and that I have no rights to it. But that is a lie! We built that house together. Even my children contributed in one way or another to get the structure standing,”she stated.
When Weekend Hope reached out to Mr Oluwajube Boboye, for his side of the story, he denied the allegations, claiming that his work as a driver required frequent travels.
However, his voice was filled with frustration as he attempted to explain, revealing that he was speaking from police detention.
“I was summoned to the station yesterday, and since then, I have been in detention. My phone has been seized, and I am not even allowed to talk,”he said.
As investigations continue, Mrs Boboye remains trapped in fear. She no longer sees a husband in him, but only a predator lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike again.
The question lingers: “Will justice come before it is too late?”
