Children are special gifts that are usually welcomed with joy and cherished by parents that are favoured by this blessing as they look forward to giving love and care to the babies.
However, the same sentiments can not be said of a couple that has been blessed with triplets in Akure metropolis as they are faced with fear of how to take care of the triplets in the face of lack of financial capacity.
The father of the new-born triplets that were delivered at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Akure, Mr Abiodun Ogidan, 42, said he has run into a huge debt and needed help to offset hospital bills incurred during the birth of the babies.
In an interview with The Hope, he disclosed that he had spent over N500, 000 since his wife was delivered of the triplets on January 11, 2023 which had depleted his meagre resources.
Mr Ogidan, a driver, from Akoko South East area of the state explained that he has incurred N2 million hospital bill because the triplets were born premature.
He disclosed that they are receiving medical attention at UNIMED and needs money to get prescribed drugs for them to survive.
The man who appeared to be at the end of his tether lamented that things have not been easy for his family so he decided to approach spirited individuals for financial aid in order to cater for the babies and their mother.
The man whose wife, Abosede Ogidan, was delivered of the triplets, a male and two females through Caesarean Section (CS) added that they already gave birth to two sets of twins before the birth of the triplets.
He appealed to Ondo State government and well meaning Nigerians to assist him financially in order to cater for the babies and the mother.
The triplets’ father who disclosed that his wife who feed the babies every two hours is finding it unbearable to cope because her breasts milk is not sufficient to satisfy the three babies.
The man said that his situation would have been easier if he had a helper and lamented that he is financially handicapped and that the little money his wife gathered from her petty trade could do nothing to salvage the situation.
His words: “ I am a driver while my wife is a petty trader. Surviving on our means of livelihood has been so tough. I am stranded presently and cannot afford to pay the medical bills of my wife and the three babies not to talk of their feeding and upkeep. I have spent over N500, 000 aside the money I received from family and friends since she gave birth in January 11, 2023. We need the financial support of good citizens of this country, no amount is too small to assist in this situation. We are appealing to the general public for urgent financial help.
“Though, children are gifts from God but when there is no money to take care of them they become burden. Our situation wasn’t that good before so when the triplets came, I knew there was problem because we already have two sets of twins. My wife and I are soliciting the support of well-wishers and well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid because we have spent all that we have. We are particularly begging the State government for financial assistance in order to cater for these children. I did not plan for it, but God decided to bless me with three children at once, please I need help, he pleaded.
