AFUED leads in teacher education, research – Ag VC

Since its establishment in 1964 as one of the Nigerian pioneer teacher training institution, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED),Ondo has remained a leading institution in teacher education, academic research and community development.
The Acting Vice-chancellor of AFUED, Prof. Samuel Akintunde made this known during the 35th Convocation ceremony press conference in Ondo.
According to the Don, “As we convened to formally announce the 61st Foundation Day and the 35th Convocation ceremony of Adeyemi Federal University of Education,Ondo. This event marks another significant milestone in the history of our great institution as we celebrate the academic achievements of our graduating students and reflect on the progress of the University.
“It is noteworthy that the last convocation ceremony was held in 2018 as a college, it is therefore gratifying to announce that this convocation is the first to be held under our new dispensation as Adeyemi Federal University of Education.”
He said six sets of students will be administered with the oath of convocation with 18,825 students; 6,269 NCE, 11,501 Degree and 1,055 part-time.
The Acting Vice-chancellor noted that three outstanding Nigerians namely, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Oba (Dr) Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, Jilo III,the Osemawe and Paramount ruler of Ondo Kingdom; and Prof. Toyin Falola, a Professor of African studies at the University of Texas in Austin,USA will be awarded Honourary Doctorate Degree .
He explained that AFUED has consistently maintained high standards in teacher education, producing quality graduates who have distinguished themselves in the education sector and beyond.
“We are also a TETFund designated centre of excellence for applying indigenous languages in pedagogy.
“Over the years, the University has expanded its facilities including lecture halls, laboratories and hostels to provide a conducive learning environment.”
Prof. Akintunde said AFUED has contributed to the development of Ondo community,the state and Nigeria at large particularly in impacting the health needs of the people by giving immunisation services free of charge.
He pointed out some key achievements since assuming office as Acting Vice-chancellor; We have strengthened quality assurance mechanisms to enhance teaching, learning and research output.
“The University has made significant investment in ICT infrastructure, including the upgrade of our e-learning platform to facilitate blended learning. We were able to secure the approval of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board for the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after some years of hiatus.
“We have prioritised the welfare of both staff and students through improved working conditions, scholarships and support for research grants in spite of funding challenges.”
He reassured the management commitment to the vision of making AFUED a world-class institution for teacher education and research.
