No fewer than 15 persons have been reportedly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in a renewed attack in Logo Local Government area of Benue State.

The incident occurred on Sunday night in Ayilamo, a community within the Logo Local Government area.

This comes just weeks after a similar attack in the area, during which 16 inhabitants were killed in a similar manner.

An eyewitness disclosed that the herdsmen stormed Ayilamo at around 1:30 a.m., armed to the teeth, and began shooting sporadically at residents while setting houses ablaze.

The eyewitness expressed concern over the recurring attacks, stating, “It is becoming unbearable; hardly a week goes by without reports of violence from herders, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property in various parts of the state.”

In recent times, this area has been particularly prone to attacks and reported killings. A similar incident occurred about two weeks ago, where herders were accused of killing 16 persons across different communities in the council.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Logo Local Government, Hon. Benjamin Uzenda, confirmed the incident. He lamented that a similar attack took place about two weeks ago, in which over 16 inhabitants were killed in a similar manner.

He expressed frustration over the constant skirmishes and killings, stating that the situation is difficult to contain and called for federal government intervention to curb the menace.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent Catherine Anene, confirmed that four people were reported killed in the recent attack.
