Residents of Agbabu and Lowo communities in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State were recently thrown into wild jubilation.

This followed an assurance by the Ondo State Government that the exploitation of the state’s vast bitumen deposits would  soon commence in the area.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Mining, Mrs Folawe Sipasi-Aluko, gave the assurance during a visit to the first bitumen block located in Agbabu and Lowo communities in Odigbo Local Government area.

Addressing a large crowd of residents who trooped out to welcome her and her entourage, Sipasi-Aluko reiterated the present administration’s unwavering commitment under Governor Aiyedatiwa to harnessing Ondo State’s mineral resources for the benefit of its citizens.

She disclosed that the proactive approach of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration towards bitumen exploitation prompted the visit, adding that it was part of the government’s readiness and determination to convert the state’s bitumen deposits into tangible economic benefits for the people.

Assuring the residents of government’s commitment, the Senior Special Assistant maintained that the benefits derived from the bitumen deposits would be maximised to ensure sustainable growth and prosperity in the state.

Sipasi-Aluko further assured the people that Governor Aiyedatiwa would continue to initiate programmes and projects aimed at making the state more attractive for investors.

She, however, solicited the continued support of the people, saying their cooperation would enable the governor to do more for their communities.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, a community leader in Agbabu, Chief Babatunde Oni, welcomed the Senior Special Assistant and her team to the area and assured the government of the community’s readiness to collaborate with potential investors to ensure the commencement of bitumen exploration.

Describing the visit as a landmark event for the ancient community, Oni expressed optimism that the exploitation of bitumen would not only enhance the town’s economic potential but also create job opportunities and promote overall development in the area.

“This development underscores the community’s commitment to harnessing its natural resources for economic growth and development.

“It marks a significant milestone in the state’s economic journey, as stakeholders in this town eagerly await the commencement of bitumen exploitation, which is expected to boost the local economy and improve the standard of living for the people of Ondo State,” he stated.
