Agbeladun trains farmers on chemical usage

In a bid to boost productivity and ensure food sustainability, Agbeladun Agricultural Empowerment, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has trained farmers in Ondo State on the proper use of agrochemicals.

The training, tagged Agrochem Mastery 2025, was held in Akure in collaboration with Hangzhou Agrochemical Nigeria Limited.

Stakeholders at the training emphasised the importance of appropriate chemical usage to enhance agricultural output, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and drive the state’s economic growth.

The Director of Agricultural Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Mrs Olabisi Ajayi, described the programme as a laudable initiative aimed at educating farmers on the correct selection and application of agrochemicals.

She said, “Many of them complain about the use of agrochemicals and how to select the right product for each crop, hence the need for sensitisation.”

She added that the initiative would assist farmers in identifying the most suitable chemical brands for their crops, particularly in mixed cropping systems.

Mrs Ajayi also encouraged farmers to visit the Ministry and take advantage of the support available under the current administration.

The President of Agbeladun Agricultural Empowerment, Mr Franklin Fadoju, said the programme was borne out of the poor results farmers often face due to the misuse of agrochemicals.

The General Manager of Hangzhou Agrochemical Nigeria Limited, Mr Wisdom Itigwe, trained participants on the application of various agrochemicals tailored to different farm products to ensure optimal outcomes.

He also advised farmers to equip themselves with essential protective gears, including boots, hand gloves, safety spectacles, and pullovers, to safeguard their health during farming operations.
