Aheregbe festival: Traders lament as hoodlums burgle, loot shops

Two shops were reportedly burgled and looted by hoodlums celebrating the Aheregbe festival in Oba-Ile Housing Estate yesterday/

The incident left the shop owners in a devastating mood, as they wept uncontrollably.

The women said they stayed back in their homes following the directive by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, that all markets and shops should remain closed to commemorate the annual Aheregbe festival. The hoodlums took the advantage to unleash terror on shop owners.

The Hope Metro gathered that, the burglars scaled through the fence into one of the compounds housing the shop, broke the shop and emptied it.

The Hope Metro also gathered that one of the women traced the hoodlums as far as NTA junction in Oba-Ile road, crying and asking people if they saw the young men who looted her shop.

When our correspondent visited the residence of the 67-year- old woman, Mrs Foluke Adewale, she said her daughter opened the shop for her few months ago and has gone abroad with her grandchildren for summer holiday.

The woman said she was left alone with her househelp who assists her sell her markets everyday.

“l didn’t open my shop. I made sure I didn’t even go out because that is the only thing that makes me step out of the house.

” I don’t know why these young men will turn a festival to a stealing spree. I have reported the incident at Ala Police station, hoping that the perpetrators will be apprehended,” she said”.

Contacted, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Fumilayo Odulana said no report have been made yet concerning such.
