The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 17, Abiodun Asabi, has officially bowed out of active service in the Nigeria Police after 35 years of meritorious service.

The Zone 17 Command of the Nigeria Police comprises Ondo and Ekiti States, with its headquarters in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Asabi’s retirement and pull-out parade, which was held Monday at the Ondo State Arcade, Akure, drew dignitaries from all walks of life, including traditional rulers, senior police officers, family members, and well-wishers.

Delivering his farewell address, the outgoing AIG expressed gratitude to God for enabling him to reach the peak of his career, stating, “I thank the Lord who has helped me navigate numerous challenges, overcome obstacles and adversity, and complete this demanding journey, arriving safely and in good

health.”

The retired police chief attributed his successes to the grace of God and the support of good leaders within the Nigerian Police Force, who helped him reach the pinnacle of his career.

Reflecting on his career, the police boss acknowledged the challenges faced by officers, including the demanding nature of the job, security threats, and operational constraints. He also paid tribute to fallen colleagues, recognizing those who lost their lives in the line of duty, resigned, or faced dismissals.

Asabi, however, emphasized the need for greater public support and enhanced government funding.

“You cannot police effectively without the assistance of the public. With the support of the public, we were able to surmount our challenges,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Ondo State, Wilfred Afolabi, described the retired AIG as an astute police officer who was professional to the core, adding that his meritorious service would be greatly missed.

In her goodwill message, the wife of the Osun State Governor, Ambassador Ngozi Adeleke, described Asabi as one of the good sons of Osun State who has made the state proud.

She added that his 35 years of experience in the police force would still be valuable in combating insecurity in Nigeria.

Dignitaries at the event included the Deji of Akure and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II; Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, the Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom among others.
