In a renewed effort to combat crime and ensure lasting peace, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Headquarters Akure, AIG Ajani Musibau, has called on stakeholders and members of the public to partner closely with law enforcement agencies.

The AIG made this known during his familiarisation tour of the Zone 17 Headquarters and the Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

He emphasised that collaboration and trust between the police and the public are essential to tackling crime and maintaining order.

“We are fostering a rapport-driven relationship with the public, and to achieve success in combating crime and criminality, we need the unwavering support of all stakeholders,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of timely and credible information, the officer stressed that the fear of reporting criminal activity is now a thing of the past.

“With advancements in technology, members of the public can now send anonymous tips to the police via phone calls or text messages without revealing their identities,” he said.

“We must embrace this modern, tech-driven approach to intelligence gathering.”

The police also called for the strengthening of local security structures, urging communities to establish and support vigilante groups that can work alongside the police.

“We are ready and willing to serve you. It’s our duty, and we’re being paid to protect lives and property.”

He also commended the Inspectorate of Police for their ongoing commitment to providing necessary support.

He reassured stakeholders of the accessibility of his office.

“My doors are always open. Call me anytime. If you have concerns, you can reach me or your Commissioner of Police directly.”

“We have ICT and cybercrime units operational across the country. Anyone who doubts our capacity should know that technology is at the core of our operations today.”

He concluded by affirming the public’s role in crime prevention:
“We’re operating a ‘See Something, Say Something’ policy.

“With community cooperation and credible intelligence, we can eliminate crime from our society.”

The Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State reaffirmed the state’s reputation as one of the most peaceful in the country, attributing the success to the unwavering dedication and professionalism of police personnel, as well as the collaborative efforts of the citizens.

Speaking during a welcome address to the Assistant Inspector General of Police overseeing Zone 17, which includes Ekiti and Ondo States, the Commissioner emphasised that the achievements in maintaining law and order are the result of consistent implementation of the Inspector General of Police’s inclusive policing strategy.
