The Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr Allen Onyema, has described the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport as one of the best globally, commending its state-of-the-art facilities and operational efficiency.
Dr Onyema, who landed at the airport on Saturday at about 10 am aboard a Boeing 737 aircraft with a 120-passenger capacity, lauded the airport’s apron, runway, and terminal building, describing them as highly functional and aesthetically impressive.
Speaking with journalists shortly after landing, the Air Peace boss noted that the airport’s readiness for both domestic and international flights places it as a key infrastructure for economic growth in Ekiti State and the nation at large.
Highlighting the airport’s capabilities, Onyema asserted that it is well-equipped to accommodate even larger aircraft such as the Boeing 777, positioning it as a major hub for aviation activities in Nigeria.
Expressing readiness to collaborate with the state government once commercial operations commence, Onyema expressed confidence that the airport would soon serve as a vital departure point for pilgrims and other travellers across the country.
“This is the first time a Boeing 737 is landing here, and as an aviator, I can confidently say this is one of the best airports in the world. We must stop underestimating our own facilities,” Onyema stated.
“When I say ‘one of the best in the world,’ I mean it. The pilot was communicating with me throughout, and he confirmed that this is one of the best runways he has ever seen. A Boeing 777 can land here without any issue. It is only a matter of time before Ekiti pilgrims and travellers start flying directly from this airport.”
“This airport is well-equipped, with a solid apron, strong runways, and a beautiful terminal. What more can we ask for?” Onyema added.
The Technical Adviser to the Governor on the Airport Project, AVM Sunday Makinde (retd), described the seamless landing of the Boeing 737 as a clear indication of the airport’s readiness for full commercial operations.
He stressed that this milestone reinforces the airport’s capacity to accommodate large aircraft and deliver top-notch aviation services.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, described the airport project as transformative for the state.
He noted that the successful landing of the Boeing 737 affirms the commitment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration to enhancing infrastructure for economic development and improved connectivity.
