Aiyedatiwa approves N1.2b for pensioners

As part of efforts of the Ondo State Government to settle the backlog of gratuity of state retirees, the state Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved N1.2 billion to fully offset gratuity of 2014 set of retirees.

Distribution of cheques to beneficiaries will be flagged off by the governor at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure on Thursday, January 11, 2024 by 3pm.

It would be recalled that all 2013 set of state retirees’ gratuity had been cleared last year while 2011 and a fractional part of 2012 set of the local government retirees were also cleared.

This is apart from about N320 million monthly, totalling about N2.7b yearly, that government has set aside for the settlement of all other categories of the pensioners’ benefits.

While congratulating esteemed pensioners in this category, the state NUP leadership prayed that God in His infinite mercy shall grant them all grace to receive and enjoy this dividends of meritorious services to Ondo State in no distant time.

In a chat with The Hope, a state executive member of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Hajj Hola Badmos commended the gesture of the government, describing the governor as a workers’ friendly governor.

Badmos is optimistic that the gesture will be a continuous one for all pensioners/retirees to further improve their lives.
