Aiyedatiwa: Children are God’s gifts, our greatest investment

By Adedotun Ajayi

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has said the future of any society rests not in structures or systems, but in the hearts and minds of children being prepared today.

He made this known on Saturday while addressing hundreds of pupils and students at the 2025 Kids Con, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

The event, organized in collaboration with the Ondo State Government, brought together children from primary and secondary schools across the state for a full day of learning, inspiration, and discovery.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described children as wonderfully and carefully made by God, not just as sons and daughters to their parents, but as special gifts from God to the world.

He emphasized that the primary responsibility of his administration is to protect the rights and welfare of all citizens, especially children, while also providing a conducive environment where education can thrive across the state.

“This event is not just a gathering, it’s an investment in the dreams, values, and voices of the young people who will one day sit in the seats we now occupy,” the governor said.

Addressing the pupils directly, the governor encouraged them to embrace discipline, listen to their parents, obey the laws of the land, and above all, focus on their academics.

“You must strive to make your parents proud, and not just your parents, but Ondo State as a whole,” he added.

Earlier in her welcome address, the coordinator of the conference, Funmi Bankole, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritizing the safety and well-being of children in the state. She commended his administration for creating a peaceful and supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive without fear.

Bankole also highlighted the achievements of the Kid’s Con Scholarship Scheme, an initiative of the conference that has, over the last eight years, provided support and sponsorship for orphans and vulnerable children in the state.

“This initiative started eight years ago with a simple vision, to give hope to children who have lost theirs. Through scholarships, mentorship, and care, we’ve seen lives transformed, and we remain committed to doing even more,” she said.

The event featured inspiring talks, mentorship sessions, creative performances, and distribution of gift items.
