Aiyedatiwa commissions Obas’ Council secretariat, pledges support for traditional rulers

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the traditional institution, describing it as a critical pillar of governance, peace, and development.

The governor made the declaration on Thursday during the commissioning of the newly constructed Obas’ Council Secretariat along Igbatoro Road, Alagbaka, Akure.

Aiyedatiwa noted that the facility symbolises the government’s deep respect for royal fathers and acknowledges their pivotal role in fostering societal harmony and progress.

In his address, the governor congratulated His Imperial Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi Ogunlade, Odundun II, CFR, the Deji of Akure Kingdom and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, under whose leadership the edifice was commissioned.

He commended the traditional rulers for their wisdom and contributions to the state’s peace and development.

“This secretariat stands as a testament to our respect and appreciation for the vital role played by traditional institutions in governance. It will serve as a centre for administrative excellence, consultations, and deliberations aimed at driving Ondo State’s development,” Aiyedatiwa stated.

He urged traditional rulers to make optimal use of the facility in promoting peace, justice, and communal progress, emphasising its potential as a platform for conflict resolution and progressive dialogue.

The governor also lauded government officials, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders who contributed to the project’s realisation, assuring the people of Ondo State that his administration remains resolute in its commitment to enhancing traditional institutions and delivering good governance.

Commissioning the Obas’ Council Secretariat, Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the structure would serve as a beacon of unity, development, and progress for generations to come.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, commended the governor for his unwavering support and for providing a befitting secretariat that would serve as a unifying hub for the state’s monarchs.

He noted that the facility would facilitate better coordination among traditional rulers and enhance their contributions to governance and community development.

The royal father also expressed appreciation to the governor for approving a 5% allocation of the monthly allowance to traditional rulers, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to preserving traditional values and strengthening the institution’s role in governance.

Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Engr. Olawoye Ayorinde Abiola, described traditional rulers as custodians of culture and values, highlighting their significant role in preserving Ondo State’s heritage.

He expressed profound gratitude to Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering commitment to empowering the traditional institution, noting that the commissioning of the secretariat was a testament to the governor’s dedication to fostering unity and enhancing the dignity of royal fathers.

According to him, the governor’s support would benefit the people of Ondo State, strengthen cultural ties, and promote peaceful coexistence.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, praised Aiyedatiwa as a visionary leader who values the traditional institution. He described the governor as “our man” and a servant leader committed to the welfare of the people.

The monarch lauded Aiyedatiwa’s deep respect for royal fathers and urged continued collaboration between the government and traditional rulers to sustain peace and development in the state.

Dignitaries present at the event included Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, Chief of Staff Segun Omojuwa, President of the Customary Court of Ondo State Justice Eunice Alade, Ondo APC Chairman Ade Adetimehin, Head of Service Bayo Philips, traditional rulers from various local government areas, and other stakeholders.
