Panel to identify culprits, recommend lasting solutions
Residents urged to cooperate as inquiry begins into violent clashes
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has constituted a seven-member Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate the recent crisis in Idogun community, Ose Local Government area of the state.
The decision followed reports of violent clashes between loyalists of the Onidogun of Idogun and another faction of the community, which disrupted peace and stability in the area.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, the panel is mandated to uncover both the remote and immediate causes of the conflict, identify those involved, and recommend lasting solutions to prevent future unrest.
The panel is chaired by Barrister Idowu Mafimisebi, with Chief Gbenga Atiba, Mrs Nike Ogunsola, Pastor Bukola Joseph Ojumu, Mr Daramola Shola, a representative of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and Mr Oladele Adesanmi as members. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, will serve as Secretary.
Aiyedatiwa urged the panel to “discharge its duties with diligence, fairness, and integrity,” stressing the need to restore lasting peace to Idogun.
He also appealed to residents to cooperate fully with the inquiry and maintain peace throughout its sittings.
The panel has six weeks to submit its report.
Recall that crisis erupted in Idogun community, Ose Local Government area of Ondo State, on October 3, 2025, when some irate youths allegedly attacked the town’s monarch, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and his son, identified as Victor.
The incident, which occurred during the annual New Yam Festival, left the monarch injured, while his wife was reportedly beaten and stripped half-naked by the angry youths.
Though the cause of the attack could not be immediately ascertained, a resident of the town, who pleaded anonymity for fear of reprisal, said some residents had long been at loggerheads with the monarch.
The source said, “The angry youths really assaulted the monarch, his wife, and son. We don’t know what caused it, but we know that some youths in the community don’t like the Oba, we don’t know why.
“If not for the swift intervention of security operatives, the matter would have degenerated into a full-blown crisis in the town.”
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said an investigation had commenced.
“The case is under investigation, and we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served,” the PPRO stated.
