Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has lauded the Chief Executive Officer of De Emeralds Choir, Dr. Engr. Olugbenga Akinfolarin Obagbemi, describing him as an extraordinary talent whose life and works have positively impacted many within and beyond the music industry.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, at the De Emeralds Prestigious Award, Golden Jubilee Celebration and Book Launch Ceremony held at Akure Town Hall on Sunday, the governor noted that Obagbemi’s creativity and excellence make him stand out among his peers.

Fasoranti said, “He’s multi-talented and indeed an icon. A man who left banking and went into music. God has blessed him with rare gifts, grace and mercy. Thank God for 50 years of life; he has touched so many people. Individuals like him are not common; they probably emerge once in 50 years. His kind of talent isn’t one you can learn in any conventional school of music, it’s divinely given.”
While congratulating the celebrant, he prayed for more accomplishments in his life, saying, “I wish him the best as he continues to impact knowledge in music on the younger generation. God will continue to guide, help, and lift him higher. The best is yet to come. Congratulations to Benga, his wife, and children. Many happy returns.”
On his part, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, praised the celebrant’s diligence, passion and commitment to the development of the entertainment and music industry in Ondo State.
Adeniyan, who described Obagbemi as a dependable professional, said, “I’ve had the opportunity to work with him for many years, and I can boldly say he’s a man of his word, diligent, committed and passionate about whatever he does. The large turnout of people at this event speaks volumes about the impact he has made in the industry.”
He congratulated the music icon on attaining 50, saying, “It’s not easy to be 50. I’m not there yet, but I’m looking forward to it. I congratulate him for getting there ahead of the rest of us. Thank you.”
In his address, Dr. Obagbemi appreciated God for His mercy and grace, expressing gratitude to his family, friends, and supporters who have stood by him through his journey in music and ministry.
He also extended special thanks to His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II; the Deji of Akure, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi; and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for their consistent support and goodwill towards De Emeralds Choir and its affiliated bodies.
The colourful event featured an award presentation and a book launch to mark the milestone, attracting dignitaries from different sectors, including politics, business and entertainment.
Among the awardees were the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; MD/CEO of Inter Atlas Synergy Ltd, Mr. Olufemi Meshe; CEO of John Vents Nig. Ltd, Mr. John Adedamola; Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Energy, Mrs. Olubukola Verheijen; MD/CEO of Oruks Apartment, Mr. Dipo Olawale; and Convener of Let’s Worship the King of Kings, Pastor David Agbeyo.
The evening was filled with soul-lifting music, tributes and the unveiling of Obagbemi’s new book, as guests celebrated a man many described as one of the shining lights of gospel and choral music in Nigeria.
