The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has said that the economic reforms by the Federal Government have significantly boosted the state’s financial position, allowing for better planning, improved service delivery, and a renewed focus on education and infrastructure.

He made this assertion on during a courtesy visit to his office in Akure by members of the Planning Committee for the maiden Colloquium of Tertiary Institutions in Ondo State.

According to the governor, the reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu, particularly the bold decision to eliminate the fuel subsidy, have opened up more revenue channels for both the Federal and State Governments.

“We are here to serve and ensure we put the state on solid financial footing so that we can plan effectively. The Federal Government’s policy has helped us greatly in achieving that,”

“Even labour has demanded and taken their own share through minimum wage increases. But despite that, what remains is being well managed to meet our obligations, reduce debt, and drive development,” he added.

Aiyedatiwa explained that Ondo State has channeled its increased revenue into strategic areas like infrastructure, pension payments, and education.

“We’ve not only maintained salary payments and allowances, we’re also clearing inherited pension arrears gradually. Salaries are paid before the end of the month, and workers are being promoted. No one is being owed.” He said

He revealed that his administration has implemented systems like biometric verification and payroll reforms to eliminate leakages and ghost workers, describing them as part of broader accountability efforts.

On the subject of education, Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his government’s commitment to making the sector a top priority, describing it as one of the pillars of his administration’s development agenda.

“Ondo State is known for its academic excellence, we are called a state of professors. That reputation must not only be protected but improved upon. Education and human capital development remain central to our vision,” he said.

The governor praised the idea behind the upcoming Colloquium of Tertiary Institutions in Ondo State, saying it aligns perfectly with the state’s goals. He expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof. Adenike Oladiji, for initiating the concept.

“This is an important gathering, an intellectual platform to foster collaboration for sustainable educational development. I’m keen on it not just as a governor, but as someone who has passed through the family unit, the classroom as a teacher, and now government. I understand the value each level brings.” He said

He expressed willingness to attend the event scheduled for June 3, 2025, which he noted coincides with his 100th day in office. “It will be a good time to reflect on what we’ve done so far and let the people know their decision to vote us in was a wise one,” he said.

In his earlier remarks, Professor Tomola M. Obamuyi, Chairman of the Planning Committee, lauded the governor for his visionary leadership and fiscal prudence, particularly the 82.6 percent reduction in the state’s domestic debt within one year.
