Ondo State Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has called on political leaders in the country on the need to let good governance, effective leadership and accountability define whom they are.
He emphasized that, “good governance, essentially borders on making the interest of the people uppermost in decisions and actions of government, while leadership entails the ability to mobilize the followership in the political and government cycle for effective actions” .
Addressing eminent personalities as Special Guest of Honour at the 5th edition of Justice Aderemi Annual Lecture Series (JAALS), held at Aare Afe Babalola Bar Center, Iyaganku Ibadan, Oyo State, Aiyedatiwa disclosed that, good governance, leadership and accountability are the Hallmarks of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led government in Ondo State.
The yearly lecture series was in honour of Late Supreme Court Justice and one time Chairman nominee of Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Hon Justice Pius Olayiwola Aderemi, CON.
Aiyedatiwa said the present administration in Ondo State is very conscious of the expectations of the people which is driven to do what is right and beneficial to the greatest good of the greatest number.
The Acting Governor explained that, accountability is the obligation or willingness or ability of government servants to give a satisfactory account of the use of their power and resources.
“Accountability is therefore, the basis of success in public administration” , he disclosed.
“Since the inception of our administration, we have continue to emplace policies and programmes that have positive impacts on the lives of our people” .
“For instance, we strengthened the State Bureau of Public Procurement, established the Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit (PPIMU) and Ondo State Appropriation has continue to be crafted using the World Bank template” .
Speaking at the well attended Lecture, The President of Nigeria Bar Association ( NBA ), Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, SAN, CON who delivered the keynote lecture titled: Good Governance, Leadership and Accountability– The Panacea for a New Nigeria said, that there was the need and the importance of social contract between the government and the governed and more particularly, the need to embrace accountability and good leadership in delivering the devidends of democracy to the governed.
Mrs Titi Akinlawon SAN chaired the panel session as Ondo State Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, DAWN D.G, Seye Oyeleye and Prof Oyelowo Oyewo were panelists.
