Aiyedatiwa lauds Armed Forces, urges peace ahead of poll

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering dedication to peace and security, both within the country and on international assignments.

Speaking during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Jum’at service held in Akure, Aiyedatiwa paid tribute to the sacrifices of military personnel, especially those who have served in peacekeeping missions abroad and others who have laid down their lives for Nigeria’s peace.

Represented at the event by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, the governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes. He also underscored the importance of fostering unity and peace among religious groups.

Aiyedatiwa encouraged citizens to maintain peace during the forthcoming local government elections and contribute to the Nigerian Legion by supporting the emblem initiative.

Meanwhile, the Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Dr. Abdulhakeem Yayi Akorede, urged governments at all levels to sustain their support for the Armed Forces. He called for collective efforts to promote peace and unity nationwide and prayed for divine guidance for the present administration.

In his address, Col. Olu Apata (Rtd.), Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Ondo State, commended the state government for prioritising the welfare of Legion members.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their presence and stressed the significance of honouring those who fought to defend the nation.

The event drew dignitaries, including members of the state executive council, serving security operatives, and representatives of the Nigerian Legion.
