The Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and prominent figures across Ondo State on Saturday, paid their last respects to the late Secretary to the State Government, Honourable Temitayo Oluwatuyi, as his remains were laid to rest.

The former SSG died on January 4, 2025 while being hospitalised in the aftermath of an auto crash.

The atmosphere of the burial ceremony which was attended by the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Olayide Adelami, former Governor Olusegun Mimiko and a former Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), among other dignitaries, was emotional as they reflected on his life of legacy and selfless service.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, while giving his tributes at the outing and thanksgiving service held in Oluwatuyi’s honour at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke- Isegun, Akure, described the late SSG as an exemplary public servant whose life was dedicated to selfless service, leadership, and community development.

Speaking at the solemn gathering, Aiyedatiwa reflected on the inevitability of death, quoting Ecclesiastes 3:2 and Job 14:5, to emphasise that every life is predetermined by God.

He acknowledged the painful reality of Oluwatuyi’s passing but urged the congregation to take solace in the impactful life he lived.

Aiyedatiwa described the late Oluwatuyi, fondly known as Tuykana, as a political giant and a unifying figure who was deeply involved in the affairs of the state, having served as a local government chairman, Commissioner for Natural Resources, and twice as Secretary to the State Government.

He recalled their time working together, emphasising the deceased’s wisdom, leadership qualities, and ability to bring people together for the common good.

“Oluwatuyi, fondly called Tuykana, has paid his debt.  “His contributions to the development of  Ondo State and grassroots politics were remarkable. “He was a compassionate leader who worked tirelessly to uplift those around him.

“His unwavering commitment to public service earned him the love and respect of his people. “His passing leaves a huge void, but as we celebrate his legacy, we must remember his dedication to the growth and progress of Ondo State.  His legacy should inspire us all to serve with integrity, compassion, and excellence,” Aiyedatiwa  eulogised.

The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the Oluwatuyi family, praying for strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

He also appreciated friends of the state, political leaders and well-wishers who showed solidarity during the period of mourning.

“As we bid our final farewell, let us honour his memory by remaining committed to the progress of Ondo State.  “We will continue to uphold the values he stood for and ensure that his legacy lives on. “We will miss his wise counsel, his infectious smile, and his calm nature, but his impact will forever remain in our hearts,” Aiyedatiwa added.

In his sermon titled, “Prepare to Meet Your Appointment with Your Maker,” the President of Christ Apostolic Church, Nigeria and Overseas, Pastor Henry Ojo, highlighted the certainty of death and the need for spiritual preparedness.

Drawing from Hebrews 9:27, which states, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment,” Pastor Ojo emphasised that death is the inevitable vehicle that transports every human, rich or poor, regardless of status, race, or background to their final appointment with God.

He encouraged everyone to prepare for this meeting with their Creator, by embracing righteousness, living a life of purpose and ensuring that their souls are in right standing with God.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the daughter of the deceased, Mrs. Jumoke Adeola, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who stood by them during their time of grief.

She thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State Government, religious leaders, friends and well-wishers for their support, prayers and presence.

Adeola acknowledged the overwhelming love and solidarity shown to the family, noting that her father’s legacy of kindness and service would continue to inspire them.

She also sought continued prayers for the family as they come to terms with their loss.

The service featured several significant moments, including heartfelt prayers for the deceased’s family, his relatives, the Akure community and the entire state.

A special thanksgiving session followed, with expressions of gratitude from the late Oluwatuyi’s family, relatives, Governor Aiyedatiwa, top government officials, members of the Akure community and well-wishers who came to honour his legacy.
