Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has expressed his condolences to the Animasaun family of Ikare Akoko following the passing of Alhaji Shehudeen Olalekan Animasaun, one of the architects of the state’s creation.

Pa Animasaun, a member of the committee that championed the establishment of Ondo State from the old Western Region, passed away on 3 February 2025, coinciding with the state’s 49th anniversary. He was 84.

This is contained in a statement issued by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the governor on Friday.

Until his demise, he was one of only three surviving members of the historic committee. With his passing, the last remaining members are Pa Rueben Fasoranti and Basorun Seinde Arogbofa.

A seasoned public servant, Pa Animasaun served as Chairman of the Ondo State Pilgrim Welfare Board from 1976 to 1979 and was later elected to the Ondo State House of Assembly, where he served between 1982 and 1983.

In his condolence message, Governor Aiyedatiwa paid tribute to Pa Animasaun’s sacrifices and contributions to the state’s progress, describing him as a distinguished educator, leader, and public servant.

Reflecting on his legacy, the Governor praised the late statesman’s integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to education, knowledge, and service to his community, state, and nation.

Governor Aiyedatiwa remarked that while Pa Animasaun’s passing marks the end of an era, his legacy endures, urging his family to take pride in his contributions to education, governance, community development, and religious leadership.

He prayed for the repose of the late elder statesman’s soul and assured the family of the government’s support.
