Aiyedatiwa receives new CP, gets briefings on Owo crisis

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Monday welcomed the new Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Olatokunbo Afolabi, at the Presidential Lodge, Government House, Akure.

The visit marked CP Afolabi’s first official engagement with the governor following his assumption of office.

Accompanied by the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipupo, the new CP was formally introduced to the governor. Mr. Oladipupo expressed confidence in his successor’s capability to strengthen the state’s security framework.

In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa extended a warm welcome to CP Afolabi while commending the outgoing CP for his contributions to maintaining security during his tenure.

The governor expressed hope that CP Afolabi’s leadership would bolster the state’s security apparatus.

“We are delighted to receive you in Ondo State,” the governor remarked. “Security is a top priority for this administration, and we believe that with your wealth of experience, you will not only sustain the progress made but also address emerging challenges effectively.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the police command in tackling security challenges.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between the state government and law enforcement agencies in preserving peace and safeguarding citizens.

During the visit, CP Afolabi provided a comprehensive briefing on the recent security disturbances in Owo Local Government Area.

He outlined ongoing efforts to restore peace in the affected communities and reassured the governor of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property statewide.

“We are aware of the unrest in Owo, and we are taking decisive steps to address the situation,” CP Afolabi stated. “Our focus remains on protecting residents and fostering an atmosphere of peace and stability. I look forward to working closely with the state government and other stakeholders to achieve this goal.”

The outgoing CP, Mr. Oladipupo, reflected on his tenure in the state, expressing gratitude for the support he received from the government and the people of Ondo.

“It has been an honour to serve in Ondo State,” he noted. “I am confident that CP Afolabi will continue the work we have started and take the state’s security to greater heights.”
