Aiyedatiwa reiterates commitment to sports development

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reiterated the commitment of his administration to all facets of sports development .

The governor stated this while playing host to the Association of Nigerian Women in Sports( NAWIS) in his office in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr
Olayide Adelami, mni; Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked officers of the Association of Nigerian Women in Sports for their visit and appreciated the fundamental roles being played by the athletes in sports development.

“Our commitment to sports development is unequivocal, total and unwavering. The present administration is happy to support your programs that would bring about growth and development to Ondo state.

“Some of our female athletes have made us proud and we are indeed happy to be identified with their achievements. We will continue to encourage more athletes to do well in their respective endeavours for sustainable development
in the sector”, he said

Earlier, the Chairperson of the Association, Princess Adejoke Adebusuyi who led other members on the courtesy visit said NAWIS was founded by Professor Florence Bola Adeyanju of the Ahmadu Bello in 1990 with a view to creating awareness on the need for active sports participation among females and increase the involvement of women in sports at all levels.

Princess Adebusuyi said the Association which comprised Nigerian Women in Sports is aimed at the engendering excellence, quality empowerment,equity in participation and dignity of members.

She said several women athletes in the state have won alot of laurels for the Sunshine State and needed to be encouraged.

She said the association is desirous of government support to futher encourage female athletes interested in sports participation and assist them to overcome their challenges.

The chairperson said the association was prepared to partner the State Government at ensuring that the athletes utilise their chances to compete in high level sport engagements so as to find personal fulfillment through the attainment of excellence in sports
performances.

She used the opportunity to intimidate the State Government of the Association’s National conference slated to hold between 1st to 4th May, 2024 in Ondo State.

She therefore appealed to the State Government for maximum support at hosting the National Conference in the state.
