Aiyedatiwa signs 2024 budget, pledges economic devt

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa today assented to the N395.25 billion 2024 Budget, emphasizing economic growth and development in Ondo State.

The bill, termed the “Budget of Economic Resilience,” sets the financial course for the state in the upcoming year.

In his speech, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the budget’s focus on human capital development, environmental sustainability, rural development, and completing ongoing infrastructural projects initiated by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. 

He stated, “The focus of this Budget is human capital development; we would keep meeting salary, pension and gratuity obligations. Emphasis would also be placed on climate change, clean and sustainable environment, rural development, and food security.”

The Governor expressed gratitude to the State Assembly for their swift passage of the bill and emphasized the need for transparency in implementing the budget. 

He affirmed, “The Executive Arm of Government will put its shoulder to the wheel to implement the 2024 Budget with the required probity and transparency it deserves.”

Acknowledging the recent petrol subsidy removal’s impact, Aiyedatiwa assured measures to mitigate effects, affirming, “This Administration would continue to put measures in place to cushion the effects until we are able to weather through the storm, hopefully shortly.”

He solicited prayers for the departed Governor Akeredolu’s family and the state government during this difficult period, “May God Almighty comfort the family and our State!”

The signing of the N395.25 billion 2024 Budget marks a significant step towards advancing Ondo State’s economic agenda, prioritizing human development, and ensuring fiscal sustainability.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Emmanuel Igbasan, extended commendations to the State Assembly for the prompt passage of the “Budget of Economic Resilience.” 

Igbasan said the significance of the budget will offer much-needed relief and economic prospects to the people of Ondo State. 

He emphasized that the budget of economic resilience aims to provide the people with the succor and economic hope they deserve.

This commendation from the Commissioner highlights the collaborative efforts between the Executive and Legislative arms in ensuring the swift passage of the budget, signaling a commitment to fostering economic stability and growth within the state.
