By Adedotun Ajayi

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Tuesday disclosed that 115 military personnel was being deployed in the Akoko axis of the state, as one of the measures to tackle insecurity.

He said the effort was in addition to strengthening the state Amotekun Corps with the engagement of new personnel and improved logistics.

He also confirmed that the proposal for a Security Trust Fund would be seriously considered by his administration.

The governor stated this when he received a delegation of leaders from the Northern Senatorial District of the State, led by elder statesman and former Senator, Bode Olajumoke, who paid him a courtesy visit in Akure.

Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked the delegation for their visit, describing it as well-timed and encouraging.

He assured the leaders that his administration remained committed to fairness, competence, and regional balance in all its decisions.

The governor said, “Let me reassure you that the principle of equity is a key part of our governance.

“We are committed to developing all parts of the State and ensuring that no community is left behind.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa praised a lawmaker from the area, Hon. Timehin Adelegbe, for his performance in the National Assembly and encouraged other representatives to emulate his dedication to service.

He acknowledged the vital role of traditional rulers and assured the delegation that royal fathers would continue to be part of government consultations and community mobilisation efforts.

He also promised that the government would give prompt attention to the crises in Akungba and Idogun.

While commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for the strides his administration has made within a short time, Senator Olajumoke urged the governor to ensure equitable distribution of appointments and developmental projects across the three senatorial districts of the State.

His words: “The performance of Your Excellency so far has been commendable, but we urge you to ensure that development is not lopsided. Every part of the State, regardless of voting patterns or political affiliations, deserves access to the dividends of democracy.”

Senator Olajumoke further advised the governor to prioritise competence and fairness in the selection of the remaining members of his cabinet, stating that equity in representation would strengthen unity and foster good governance.

Speaking on the rising insecurity in parts of Ondo North, particularly the Akoko axis, Olajumoke appealed to the governor to acquire more sophisticated security equipment and deploy technology in the operations of the Amotekun Corps.

He also called for the recruitment of additional personnel to strengthen local response.

He proposed the creation of a Security Trust Fund through an Executive Bill, which, according to him, would enhance synergy, coordination, and sustainable funding for internal security in the State.

“If insecurity is drastically reduced, it will directly impact food production, reduce inflation, and improve the livelihoods of our people.

“Farmers will have unrestricted access to their farms and produce enough not only for local consumption but also for export,” he added

Olajumoke also lauded the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for sponsoring the rehabilitation of farming roads to improve access to markets.
