Aiyedatiwa unveils new initiatives for Ondo’s progress

The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa last week emphasized economic prosperity through tourism development and took decisive steps toward inclusive governance and improved security across the State.

Through strategic events and high-level consultations, the governor outlined new initiatives aimed at unlocking Ondo’s tourism potential, fostering equitable growth across all regions, and strengthening measures to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

Governor Aiyedatiwa began the week at the 2025 Easter Carnival celebration held at Araromi Seaside in Ilaje Local Government area, where he reiterated his administration’s resolve to promote the State’s rich tourism assets for economic advancement.

Speaking at the colourful event, the governor emphasized that tourism remains a veritable tool for driving growth, creating jobs, and fostering community development. He declared that his administration would not shirk its responsibility of harnessing these potential for the benefit of the people.

“We are committed to formulating and implementing policies that promote the growth of tourism, thereby unlocking new opportunities for our youths and boosting our local economy,” he stated.

The governor further called on investors, both local and international, to take advantage of the abundant tourism potential available across  the State. He assured that ongoing efforts to enhance the State’s security architecture would create a conducive environment for investments to thrive.

The Araromi seaside event, marked by cultural displays, musical performances, and communal festivities, highlighted the rich heritage and untapped opportunities in the coastal communities of Ondo State.

Continuing the momentum, Governor Aiyedatiwa on Tuesday received a high-powered delegation from the Northern Senatorial District of the State, led by elder statesman and former Senator, Bode Olajumoke.

The courtesy visit, which held at the Governor’s Office in Akure, provided a platform for frank discussions about development, governance, and security.

Senator Olajumoke, who spoke on behalf of the delegation, commended the governor for the strides achieved in a relatively short period. However, he stressed the need for equitable distribution of appointments and infrastructural projects across the three senatorial districts to foster unity and fairness.

“The performance of Your Excellency so far has been commendable, but we urge you to ensure that development is not lopsided. Every part of the State, regardless of voting patterns or political affiliations, deserves access to the dividends of democracy,” Olajumoke said.

He advised the governor to prioritize competence and fairness in the constitution of the remaining members of the State Executive Council. Additionally, he called for the establishment of a Security Trust Fund, through an Executive Bill, to guarantee sustainable funding and coordination of security operations.

On the issue of insecurity in the Akoko area, the elder statesman urged the government to equip the Amotekun Corps with modern technology and recruit more personnel to strengthen grassroots security operations.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, while responding, assured the delegation that equity, competence, and regional balance remain the cornerstone of his administration’s policy decisions.

“Let me reassure you that the principle of equity is a key part of our governance. We are committed to developing all parts of the State and ensuring that no community is left behind,” he said.

On security, the governor announced the deployment of 115 military personnel to the Akoko axis as part of ongoing efforts to tackle emerging security threats. He also assured that the government would seriously consider the proposal for a Security Trust Fund.

The governor praised Hon. Timehin Adelegbe, who represents Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, for his effective representation at the National Assembly and urged other lawmakers to emulate his commitment to service.

He further pledged that the administration would work closely with traditional rulers in addressing security concerns and fostering community development, noting that royal fathers remain essential partners in governance.

Among dignitaries present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff,  to the Governor,Prince Segun Omojuwa; and the Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philips.
