Youths have been advised to make good use of every opportunity to bring about positive change in their environment.
Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, gave the charge in his goodwill message at the Ondo and Ekiti States Youth Leaders’ Clinic organised by the Abuja Leadership Centre, University of Abuja, in Akure on Thursday.
Speaking at the event themed “Empowering the Next Generation Leaders”, the governor noted that the habits formed by youths at this stage of their lives often remain with them forever, stressing that they possess the potential to drive the nation’s economy.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Aiyedatiwa said: “You occupy a specific and special place in society where you are being raised. So, channel your energy towards positive things and be creative. That is how you can make a change in your society.”
He stated that Ondo State relies on its youth population to bring about the necessary transformation, adding that his administration places great confidence in their abilities.
He further urged them to “dream big, be bold, be wise and do not be afraid of challenges because every obstacle is an opportunity to learn and grow. Take opportunities to make positive changes. Uphold your integrity and foster unity, as true leadership is rooted in understanding and service to others.”
In his opening remarks, the representative of the Director, Abuja Leadership Centre, Dr. Success Ademeso, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering commitment to youth development and educational advancement in the state.
He described the event as an initiative aimed at reawakening leadership potential among young people, noting that true leadership begins with character, responsibility, and purpose.
Dr. Ademeso explained that the Abuja Leadership Centre was established to nurture a new generation of patriotic leaders through initiatives that empower youths with the knowledge and confidence needed to secure Nigeria’s future.
He encouraged participants to make a difference wherever they find themselves, reminding them that they are both “the leaders of tomorrow and the influencers of today.”
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of the Ekiti and Ondo States Youth Leaders’ Clinic for Secondary School Prefects, Joel Aribanusi, described the programme as “a vital part of our mandate as students of the Centre to return to our various states and share the leadership knowledge, values, and experiences we have gained with the next generation of leaders.”
He added that the clinic was designed to inspire, equip, and empower young leaders with the right mindset and practical tools for effective leadership, discipline, and civic responsibility.
