The O’datiwa Women Free Skills Acquisition Training Programme, launched by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is set to graduate trainees from its catering class.
The initiative, which commenced in February, has enabled participants to hone their culinary skills. Their progress was recently showcased during a practical session held at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Akure.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Bosede Osamaye, who evaluated the trainees, commended their professionalism. She stressed that the programme aligns with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Ease Agenda, which prioritises women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship in the food service, catering and hospitality sectors.
Dr Osamaye applauded the trainees’ culinary expertise and presentation, urging them to remain committed to their skill development.
Also assessing the participants, the National President of the Female Progressive Skilled Artisan Initiative, Dr Jumoke Aborode, praised their efforts. She immediately placed an order for 30 sandwiches, encouraging the women to perfect their preparation of local dishes and soups while staying focused on their growth.
Facilitators including Mrs Ruth Olagundoye, Mrs Mariam Yusuf and Mrs Bukola Tinubu, alongside a student, Mrs Bukola Olaseni, highlighted the transformative impact of hands-on training. They noted that it equips women with income-generating skills and enhances their ability to contribute positively to society.
Variety of skills already covered in previous training sessions featured practical lessons on preparing snacks such as doughnuts, chin-chin, puff-puff and buns, as well as producing tomato paste and sardines.
