The Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government area, Hon. Ayo Ajana, on Saturday led the October environmental sanitation across major locations in Oba -Akoko, Akoko South- West Local Government.
Ajana said the exercise was part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure a clean, safe and healthy environment for residents.
The exercise, which took place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., covered key areas such as abattoirs and market stalls. It also involved the clearing of accumulated waste and illegal dump sites.
Speaking after the exercise, Ajana said it was a continuation of the sanitation campaign launched shortly after his inauguration, aimed at promoting proper hygiene, effective waste management and sustainable living in the local government.
He said community volunteers, council officials, sanitation workers and market users participated in the cleanup, which was also used to educate residents on responsible hygiene and waste management practices.
Ajana urged residents to take ownership of their environment and play active roles in keeping their surroundings clean.
He said, “Maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility. Our administration remains fully committed to sustaining regular and well-coordinated sanitation exercises, enhancing community awareness of hygiene, and ensuring effective enforcement of environmental regulations throughout Akoko South West Local Government Area.”
The council boss also called on residents to report cases of illegal dumping or blocked drains to the appropriate authorities for prompt intervention.
