Akeredolu commissions landmark projects

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu yesterday commissioned three projects at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa.
The projects commissioned at the University main campus included the University Library, Administrative Building and University Auditorium.
The projects are part of the infrastructural development currently going on in the University under Governor Akeredolu’s administration.
Also present at the commissioning were Governor Akeredolu’s running mate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; Secretary to the State Government, Temitayo Oluwatuyi; Chief Olusola Oke; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale; Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Femi Agagu; SUBEB Chairman, Princess Oladunni Odu, traditional rulers, members of the State House of Assembly, among other top government officials.
Inaugurating the projects, governor Akeredolu specially saluted the great vision of the former governor of the state, late Dr Olusegun Agagu, whose special passion, sincerity of purpose and commitment made the establishment of the university a reality for the entire people of the state and the southern senatorial district in particular.
The Governor explained that his administration inherited deplorable condition of things in the university in terms of infrastructure, workers’ welfare and other essential facilities incidental to conducive learning environment. He also noted that the unfortunate situation strengthened his resolve to changing the institution’s narrative by immediately commencing a gradual, radical and systematic implementation of the state government’s strategic plan in the institution.
He condemned what he called total abandonment of the south including the University by the immediate past government, saying such decision was a great disservice not only to the people of the southern senatorial district but the entire state
Governor Akeredolu revealed that his administration, among other ongoing projects, has commenced and completed a new electrification project while it has also facilitated the donation of science equipment worth millions of naira from Seeding Lab., USA.
“Within hundred days in office, this administration completed the asphalt laying of the road from the Main Gate to the heart of the heart of the Campus: a road contract awarded, but abandoned for over eight years.
“It would be recalled that OAUSTECH, for over eight years, was a one-Faculty University, with only the School of Science handling only ten programmes. However, through the intervention of our administration as a result of improved funding, we have been able to add two additional schools: the School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology”, the Governor said.
He disclosed that all programmes being run by the institution have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission as a result of his commitment to the development of the University.
The governor noted that in line with the desire of his administration to transforming OAUSTECH to a world class University, the institution has been enlisted as a beneficiary of TETFUND for the first time since inception.
Governor Akeredolu further added that his government would continue to do that which will enhance the rapid social, educational and economic development of the State, saying the state is blessed with all necessary natural endowments to liberate the state and the people.
The governor advised the people of the southern senatorial district. not to vote wrong person in the October 10 governorship election, but APC to consolidate on the ongoing infrastructural development across the southern senatorial district, just as he assured the people of better days ahead.
Ondo State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Pastor Femi Agagu, described Akeredolu as God sent Governor to the University.
He said, the University was then called Museum of abandoned properties but that Akeredolu has turned it to Citadel of learning , excellence and beauties. “For this, all of us in the southern senatorial district will continue to be grateful to you”
In his address, the Vice -Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sunday Roberts Ogunduyile described Governor Akeredolu as the architect of the modern day OAUSTECH and a pace setter per excellence.
