Akeredolu signs amendment to Amotekun Law

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has yesterday signed into law the first  amendment to the Ondo State Security Network Agency Law, codenamed Amotekun Corps as another victim of the massacre at the Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo has died.

The governor who assented to the bill at the State Executive Chamber, Governor’s Office, Alagbaka Akure, noted that the first amendment became imperative in the light of heightened insecurity in the state.

The State House of Assembly had passed the amendment bill into law.

Akeredolu explained that the amendment would further enhance the security architecture of the State.

The Governor appreciated the Ondo State House of Assembly for the quick passage of the bill.

Speaking with Government House reporters, shortly after the State Executive Council meeting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Commander Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye appreciated Governor Akeredolu for assenting to the amendment of the law which established the Security Network Agency.

He assured that the development would scale up the operational capacities of the state security outfit.

The commander also used the occasion to announce the procurement of new operational vehicles to be distributed to all security agencies in the state by the state Governor, adding that the development would greatly improve the performances of security agencies in the state.

Adeleye emphasised that the Corps is more prepared to combat all forms of criminal activities in any part of the state, just as he solicited the cooperation of all to achieve the desired results.

Meanwhile, the State Government has announced the death of another victim of the recent Owo Church attack.

Updating Government House Reporters at the end of the State Executive Council meeting, the new  Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, said the State Executive Council expressed regret that one more death has been recorded as a result of the June 5 terror attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo bringing the number of fatalities to 41.

17 persons were still being hospitalised while others have been discharged.

While commiserating with the bereaved families and praying for speedy recovery of those still in the hospitals, the Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the State Government to having a memorial site built in honour of all the victims.
