Akeredolu signs law establishing UNIMEDTCH

All is now set for take off of Teaching Hospital in  Ondo State as the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, signed the law for the establishment of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTCH).

The law which provides for two locations in Akure and Ondo for the Teaching Hospital has with the assent began operations seamlessly and effectively.

Addressing newsmen at the signing held in the Governor’s Office, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Jibayo Adeyeye said the development which followed the passage of the law by the Ondo State House Assembly was a major boost at achieving the health projections of the present administration.

Adeyeye said their well-being would continue to be prioritised as the  administration was not relenting at “providing accessible and qualitative health care and Social Service delivery” for the citizenry.

He said the former State Specialist Hospital complex in Akure would be reconstructed to meet the standard befitting a Teaching Hospital while a world class complex would also be built for the Teaching Hospital in Ondo.

Adeyeye also said the State Government would within the week take delivery of some of the health facilities imported for onward delivery to health institutions across the state.

He described the UNIMED Teaching Hospital law, 2019, as another great achievement in the life of the present government.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adegbenro who commended governor Akeredolu for the latest development, explained that the law would provide for tertiary health institution in the state, apart from primary and secondary.

He noted that the development would enable the people of the state have access to tertiary health care  instead of traveling outside the state.

Adegbenro further said the facilities would provide training grounds for health care professionals within and outside the state.
