Public Servants in Ondo State have been advised to eschew partisan politics as it could be dangerous to their careers.
The State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, gave the advice at the commissioning of the newly renovated Prince Fioye Bajowa Executive Bar of the Senior Staff Club in Akure, the state capital.
Represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, Mr Dare Aragbaye, the governor, who described the public service as the engine room of any government, said the service should be insulated from party politics if it would deliver on its mandate to the generality of the people objectively.
According to him, the need for public servants to relax and rejuvenate after an exhaustive day’s work informed the setting up of the club.
Akeredolu added that his administration in the state had always supported in sustaining the club and would continue as the need arises.
Earlier at the event, the State Head of Service and Patron of the Club, Pastor Kayode Ogundele, FCIPM, while lauding the infrastructural transformation drive of Gov. Akeredolu in the state, particularly appreciated the governor for the construction of adjoining roads leading to the club as well as the Ala Staff Quarters, where many workers reside.
According to him, the governor remains passionate about things touching the well being of the public servants as evident in the welfare packages they have enjoyed recently among which is the taking off of transport palliative for workers far before the full-blown palliative distribution to other sectors of the public.
Ogundele stressed the importance of recreation to the productivity of workers, as he urged the public servants to avail themselves of the responsible use of sports and other recreational facilities that abound in the club.
Earlier, in his welcome address delivered at the event, the President of the Club, Mr Olayemi Olaniyi, said the renovation of the 24-year-old bar became necessary to conform with the modern-day reality.
He said other structures in the club were also receiving due attention.
