Burial arrangements for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State began on Thursday with Winning Souls Crusade, held at the popular MKO Abiola Democracy Park, Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa joined the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ondo State chapter and the Word Communication Ministries (WOCOM), at the event tagged, “Ondo State Total Recovery Crusade,” in honour of the late Governor.
In his sermon drawn from Acts of Apostles, chapter 28 verses 1-6, Apostle Sunday Ayodele Popoola emphasized God’s protection and favour in the face of adversity. He said the incident where Paul was bitten by a venomous snake but remained unharmed served as a powerful symbol of God’s presence and intervention in difficult times. He said this could emphasize the idea that even in the midst of mourning and loss, God’s protection and favour were still present for those who trust in Him.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were members of the late Governor Akeredolu’s family, including Pastor Kolawole Akeredolu, Justice Alero Akeredolu, Prof. Oluwole Akeredolu and Dr Ifeoma Akeredolu, Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Secretary to the State Government Tayo Oluwatuyi, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omojuwa, traditional rulers, former members of the State Executive Council, members of the State House of Assembly, and other top government functionaries.
The crusade featured songs, prayers for Governor Aiyedatiwa, Ondo state and the Akeredolu’s family.
Speaking at the event, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, praised the initiative of organizing the crusade, noting that it has positively impacted many lives.
“We draw inspiration from the life and legacy of late Governor Akeredolu, who diligently pursued God-given tasks throughout his life journey, living with purpose and fulfilling his divine calling.
“He has completed his race and fulfilled his mission. Now it’s left for us to run our own race. Now, we want to assure you that we are committed to serving our people and ensuring the completion of projects initiated by our late governor for the development of our community”, the Governor added.
It would be recalled that the late governor passed away on December 26, 2023.
