Aketi Cup kicks off November 12

All is now set for the debut of Ondo State Governor’s Cup, tagged Aketi Cup.

Aketi Cup, an annual event will feature the 18 local government areas of the State.

It is aimed at discovering talented footballers across the State, nurturing them as well as creating a future for the players in line with the vision of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) a soccer enthusiast.

This is contained in a release made available to newsmen in Akure the state capital,by the main Orgarnising Committee for Klick Konnect Networks in partnership with Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ondo state.

The tournament is also meant to return the  lost glory of the State in the area of grassroots football development.

Aketi Cup is also expected to promote sports (football) development in all the nooks and crannies of the State.

The reawakening of the hitherto moribund Ondo State Governor’s Cup is one of the objectives of hosting the competition.

Registration of interested clubs at the local government level will hold from October 2-9, 2018.

The preliminary stage of the competition at the local government level will be decided between October 11and 18, 2018 while the Pre-Competition Press briefing is scheduled for November 1, 2018.

The draw and unveiling ceremony of the tournament will take place between 5th & 7th November, 2018 while the opening ceremony and the official kick off of the competition is billed for November 12, 2018 at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.

The competition shall come to an end with the grand finale on December 2, 2018 at Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.

Ondo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has given the concession mandate to Klick Konnect Networks to organise the competition.

Aketi Cup Brand Ambassador is former Super Eagles player and coach, Samson Siasia while the competition Face Ambassador is former captain of Sunshine Stars Football Club and Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona of HNK Gorica FC of Croatia.

Football agents and scouts from English Premiership clubs Crystal Palace and Manchester City as well as Canada, Sweden and Spain will be on ground to select outstanding players in the competition.
