Governments at all levels have been advised to build resilient sub-national economy to salvage the current economic crunch in  the nation.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Akinterinwa gave the advice at the 28th investiture ceremony and inauguration of members of the executive of Akure and District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in Akure

Mr Akinterinwa said a resilient sub-national economy would guarantee government responsibility to her citizens in the provision of basic social amenities, delivering on the benefits of good governance such as improved infrastructure, improved health, education facilities and also creating an enabling environment for the citizens to thrive in their personal lives and businesses.

He said the revenue was shrinking, but there must be a response from the government, as the citizens would continue demanding good roads, safe and clean water, new and well-equipped facilities in health and education, security, and youths’ desire to be gainfully employed.

While revealing that Ondo State had systematically built a strong public financial management system that meets the identified objectives, the Commissioner said the current COVID-19 context had made state governments spend significant amounts on infrastructure and social investments just to be able to reflate the economy.

Delivering the goodwill message for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to ICAN, the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu described ICAN as one the most viable professions in Nigeria

In his address, the President of the Institute Of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Mallam Tijani Musa Isa, represented by Chief J.S.O Adeniyi, said the lesson learnt from the coronavirus(COVID-19) pandemic should be the need for a more diversified and resilient economy.
