Akoko community appeals to govt over infrastructural devt

Residents of Surulere Community, Irun Akoko and their adjoining farm settlements have appealed to the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to extend his administsration’ s infrastructural development projects to the area.
The people who commended the governor for his achievements so far in developing the sunshine state said the community, despite its economic importance to the state, has been suffering total neglect by previous administrations.
Surulere in Akoko Northwest Local Government is a food basket as the community and its adjoining farm settlements have continued to play a pivotal role in feeding the state through its agricultural outputs.
Speaking with The Hope, the Baale and Head of the community, Chief Sheriff Dauda disclosed that lack of motorable road is responsible for the shortfall in the agricultural output of the residents.
Chief Dauda said due to the bad nature of the road linking the community with Irun, farmers in the area usually experience food wastage annually.
In addition, the Baale revealed that cases of water borne diseases are common in the community as they rely on water from streams which are sometimes not healthy and often polluted by cattle.
He called on government to site functional boreholes in the community which population is growing drastically without basic amenities that will alleviate their suffering.
Chief Dauda gave kudos to the state government for the basic health centre and a primary school in the community.
He however called for the establishment of a secondary school to cater for the community and other communities in the area like Ago Igbira, Ilori and Oluta camps among others.
On the Coronavirus pandemic, the community leader praised government’s effort at reducing the spread of the scourge through various precautionary measures introduced.
He encouraged his people to embrace regular hand washing the use of sanitizer ,using of nose masks and the compliance with social and physical distancing.
