Akoko demands 20 LCDAs

A total of 20 LCDAs were yesterday proposed to be created from the four local governments of Akoko South East, Akoko South West, Akoko North West and Akoko North East as the committee on LCDA creation had public hearing in the area.

 In his welcome address, the Chairman of the committee, Prince Adelanke Odogiyan while assuring the people that the programme is a well intended one by government to bring government closer to the people for development said that justice would be done on their memoranda.

According to him, the committee has so far received about 97 memoranda, adding that the communities in their memoranda requested for 105 proposed LCDAs .

He commended the people of the state for the confidence reposed in the government of Akeredolu and the committee, adding that  if not, such a high number of memoranda would not have been submitted.

The secretariat of Akoko North East, venue of the event was filled to the brim as the four local governments gathered to adopt their memoranda.

In Akoko South East Local Government, two LCDAs were proposed to be created from the existing local government and they are Ilelabo with Ifira Akoko as the headquarters and Ipe LCDA with the headquarters in Ipe Akoko.

In Akoko South West Local Government, nine LCDAs were proposed to be created which include Iwaro oka LCDA with the headquarters in Iwaro oka, Akungba-Iwaro with the headquarters in Akungba Akoko and Akungba Municipal with the headquarters in Akungba Akoko.

Others include Ikamerin LCDA with the headquarters in Akungba Akoko, Oka North LCDA with the headquarters in Ikanmu and Ikamerin LCDA with the headquarters in Etioro.

The rest are Akun LCDA with the headquarters in Akungba Akoko, Oka West LCDA with the headquarters in Iwaro oka and Oba-Ikun LCDA with the headquarters in Oba Akoko.

For Akoko North West Local Government, five LCDAs were proposed to be carved out of it including Akoko North Central LCDA with the headquarters in Ikaramu, Akoko West LCDA with the headquarters in Irun-Ogbagi, Akoko Central LCDA with the headquarters in Arigidi and Ajowa LCDA with the headquarters in Ajowa.

The last memorandum in the area was requesting for two LCDAs which include Ikare West with the headquarters in Okoja Ikare and Ikare South LCDA with the headquarters in Edo.

For Akoko North East, the first memorandum was requesting for the creation of three LCDAs all bearing the same name Ikare West with the headquarters in Okoja and while three memoranda bearing Isowopo LCDAs have different headquarters of Akunnu Akoko, Auga Akoko and Ise Akoko making a total of six LCDAs to be carved out of Akoko North West.

The Owa Ale of Ikare, Oba Adegbite Adedoyin described the step as important as it will bring government closer to the people.

He called on the committee to speed up the process for governor’s assent.

Also speaking, the Asoju Oba of Ikare, Chief Olabisi Babajide, said the people had worked hard to ensure that the proposed LCDAs creation by the state is possible and workable knowing fully well that it will bring government closer to the grassroots.

“We are particularly impressed, I expect that Akoko North East where I come from will be divided into two or three because of their large expanse of land and that government will accord them the necessary priority”, he stressed.
