Akoko/Ekiti abduction: Vigilantes nab suspect

Barely 24 hours after some suspected kidnappers attacked and abducted four travellers on the Ikare- Irun Akoko/Ado-Ekiti highway in Ondo State, one of the bandits has been arrested.

The Hope Metro gathered that the suspect was apprehended in the forest by combined efforts of Irun Akoko community vigilantes and other security operatives.

It was learnt that after his arrest, the suspect was first taken to the Palace of Onirun of Irun Akoko, afterwhich he was transferred to Police Area Commander’s office in Ikare Akoko, for further interrogation.

The suspected kidnappers were reported to have attacked an 18-seat bus travelling along Irun/ Imesi-Ekiti in the Akoko Northwest local government area of Ondo State around 6pm on Saturday.

Reports had it that four of the travellers were abducted by the gunmen.

Sources in the town said the victims kidnapped were indigenes of Irun Akoko, neighbouring Ikare-Akoko, in Akoko Northeast and Ekiti communities.

Confirming the incident earlier, the Commander,  Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Chief Adetunji Adeleye said the abductors of the passengers only succeeded in kidnapping some of them.

He disclosed that some of the passengers escaped from the scene on their own while a joint team of soldiers from Ekiti State and men of Amotekun Corps from Ondo State rescued some of them in the all night search.

 The Amotekun boss assured that security agencies were working towards securing the release of the victims.

Adeleye in his reaction said:“My men and soldiers from Ekiti are combing the forest. But the hoodlums did not kidnap the 18 passengers in the bus.
