Women farmers in Akoko area of Ondo State have predicted that there will be crash in the prices of foodstuffs .
One of the farmers who specialises in dry season farming, Mrs Khalifat Aliu from Ikare Akoko, attributed this to the rate at which people are now going into farming, particularly the womenfolks.
Aliu disclosed that what women were known for before now was merchandising, especially buying and selling, noting that has changed as more women now see farming as a goldmine.
She stated that the advent of rain will bring succour to the people and reduce hunger, famine, food price hike and scarcity.
Another woman farmer, Mrs Florence Adamolekun, who is also the Secretary, Akoko Northwest Chapter of the Nigerian Farmers, urged Nigerians to take advantage of the population, the large expanse of arable land and vegetation and use them for mass production of food for both home consumption and exportation.
According to her, doing this will boost the nation’s foreign earnings.
The farmers also appealed to land owners to always release land for agriculture, urging government to do more on security.
