The immediate past lawmaker representing Akoko South West 1 in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Akogun Olugbenga Omole was on Saturday honoured by his community as the Pillar of Sports and Youth Development.
Presenting the award to Omole at this year’s Oka Day Festival, the Olubaka of Oka, Oba Dr Yusuf Adebori Adeleye,OON described Omole as one of the illustrious sons of the town.
Oba Adeleye stated that the awardees’ contribution to youth development, empowerment was second to none particularly in the area of Sports.
His words: “Akogun Omole has etched the name of the town on the global map by bringing renowned ex-internationals to Oka on yearly basis, thereby making the youth to tap from the wealth of experience possessed by these stars and the efforts are already yielding results.
“His annual football competition has lifted some of our youths out of poverty and opened the door of a flourishing career for them.
The monarch enjoined other well meaning indigenes of the town to take a cue and contribute their quotas to the development of the town.
Speaking with newsmen after receiving the award, Omole who was visibly elated and full of appreciation to the monarch and the selection committee for counting him worthy of the prestigious award, dedicated the award to the Almighty God Who he said has been his mainstay and the entire youths of Oka.
“This will spur me to do more and I will not relent in my efforts to see to the betterment of our people.”
Other awardees at the annual festival are: Senator Ajayi Boroffice, General Jones Arogbofa, His Eminence Most Rev.(Dr)Jude Arogundade, the Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese and Dr Segun Ategbole who all got Okarufe Golden Merit Award.
