The Alafin of Afin, in Akoko Northwest Local Government area of Ondo State, Oba Abdul-Raheem Mustapha Adejoro has tasked the federal government to be alive to its responsibilities and find a lasting solution to security challenges .
The monarch gave charge at Irun Akoko during the annual Ramadan lecture organised by the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Akoko Northwest chapter.
The traditional ruler who spoke on “Causes of incessant insecurity in Nigeria and Islamic Solutions”, went down memory lane by saying that security of the country was very perfect before the advent of civil war in the country.
He itemized the present day heinous crimes to include ritual killings, robbery, religious crisis, terrorism, gun running, cattle rustling, banditry, vandalisation of public properties, cyber crimes, rape, drug trafficking, human trafficking, herders/farmers clashes and kidnapping, which he said are posing terrible security challenges to the corporate existence of the country.
He described a situation where a governor was attacked and monarchs abducted as worrisome, saying nobody is safe in the country again.
The monarch appealed to youths to embrace skills acquisition programmes and shun crime while urging parents to monitor their wards now that primary school pupils are being initiated into cultism .
He urged muslims to make use of the Holy Quran to be their guide as this will go a long way to reduce criminality.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion and a former member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Gani Dauda, lauded the efforts of the organization in making Islamic organizations in Akoko Northwest Local Government to be under one umbrella.
He urged many Muslims to come out and participate in politics where they can showcase the attributes of Islam in governance.
