The Chairman of Akoko Northwest Local Government area of Ondo State, Esan Owolabi, has approved the reconstruction of a collapsed bridge at Ubalo along the Oke-Irun road in Irun Akoko.
The move comes as part of the administration’s commitment to infrastructural renewal and community development.
The Hope learnt that the bridge had been in a state of disrepair for an extended period.
While inspecting the ongoing reconstruction, Owolabi described the bridge’s previous condition as dangerous and emphasised the urgent need for intervention.
He reassured the people of the area that his administration is committed to ensuring that every community within the council benefits from ongoing development efforts under the Renewed Hope agenda.
Meanwhile, the bridge reconstruction is one of several development projects initiated by Owolabi within his first 100 days in office.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Olagoke Adeyanju, it was noted that the council boss has facilitated federal employment opportunities for indigenous job seekers in the local government area, including positions for graduates and postgraduates.
“His administration also successfully inaugurated a volunteer security outfit to strengthen community policing and enhance local safety.
“As part of his commitment to grassroots development, the Chairman has overseen the grading of several roads within the council, while also embarking on multiple bridge reconstruction projects in key areas such as Maternity Road in Arigidi Akoko and Abilogbo Street in Ogbagi Akoko.
“In addition, industrial borehole construction is ongoing in communities including Okeagbe Akoko, Erusu Akoko, and Ikaram Akoko, aimed at improving access to clean water across the region.
“To further enhance public safety and night-time visibility, solar-powered streetlights have been installed across all ten wards of the local government, in a project widely referred to by residents as ‘Imole Esan Rere.’”he stated
