Insurance compensation awaits victims of the last weekend’s auto crash in Akungba-Akoko in which a middle aged woman and her twins lost their lives.
The hint was given yesterday by the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who visited the accident scene where 16 persons were crushed to death by a trailer loaded with rice.
Among the victims were a middle aged hair dresser, Auntie Remi and her twins who were killed in her shop after the truck lost control as a result of a brake failure.
The Governor who was overwhelmed with shock after the assessment tour said insurance company would be made to compensate the victims, the injured and those whose property were destroyed in the auto crash.
Akeredolu who expressed sadness over the high casualty figure appealed to hawkers and traders to desist from street trading to avert tragedy of the Akungba Akoko scenario.
He commiserated with the Akungba-Akoko community over the tragedy and promised urgent evacuation of the trailer and other blockages from the road to ensure easy flow of traffic on the ever busy highway.
He appealed to the youths to embrace peace and enjoined officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission to assist in making the road free for usage by motorists.
Earlier, the Alale of Akungba, Oba Sunday Ajimo had informed the governor of communla efforts to relocate street roadside traders from the town to avert another tragedy.
He thanked the governor for the visit which he described as a smooth balm on their frayed nerves.
Meanwhile, 11 corpses of the victims have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare while five others were kept at Iwaro Oka General Hospital, The Hope Metro has learnt.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Akoko South West, Mr Augustine Oloruntogbe has appealed to the Federal Government to rehabilitate Itapele road to reduce the presence of trucks on Ikare-Owo and Isua-Epinmi-Iwaro road.
