Akungba, Oba, other Akoko communities experience first rain

Some communities in Akoko, Northern Senatorial District of Ondo State, have recorded first rain of the year of the year on Saturday.

The development have been welcomed by residents of Akungba, Etioro, Ayegunle-Oka and Oba-Akoko who expressed euphoria over the atmosphere which was earlier overwhelmed by unbearable heat at its peak.

A community leader in Akungba-Akoko, Mr. Sunday Agede, said the first rain assuaged the scorching heat that had dehydrated water from the body system.

He added that the intense heat forced his family members to take larger amount of water and use the bathroom twice daily.

“The first rain really helped cool down the scorching heat that had dried up all the moisture from our bodies,” he said, sighing with relief.

“For weeks, we had been battling the unbearable temperature, sweating even while sitting still. The air felt heavy, and the sun was relentless, making it almost impossible to find comfort.”

“The heat was so intense that my family had to drink a lot more water and take showers twice a day just to stay comfortable. Even at night, sleeping was a struggle because the air remained hot and stuffy. But with this rain, the cool breeze has returned, and for the first time in a while, we can breathe easily again.”

Also, a retired Civil Servant, Mrs. Ayeni Grace said the rain dropped when residents were already in dire need of it, stressing that first drops have eased off high temperature occasioned by heat.

“The rain finally came when we were desperately in need of it, the first drops have really helped to cool down the high temperature caused by the heat. For days, the sun had been unbearable, making it difficult to stay outside for too long. Even indoors, the heat was suffocating, and many people struggled to find relief.”

“You can see how people reacted with excitement when the rain started falling. Some even stepped outside just to feel the cool breeze and drops on their skin. The roads, which had been covered in dust, were quickly washed clean, and the air became fresher. It was truly a relief for everyone,” she said.
